Plans to double the Immigration Health Surcharge

The Government has announced plans to increase the immigration health surcharge to £400 from its current rate of £200. It is anticipated that the new rates will come into effect by December 2018. Students and those on the Youth Mobility Scheme would be subject to a reduced rate of £300 per year.

The health surcharge is payable in full when leave to enter or remain in the UK is applied for regardless of the age of the applicant or whether he later accesses the NHS or has the benefit of private medical insurance.
